5th Grade Art: National Geographic Senior Editor Live via Washington DC

In art class, we have been exploring how artists tell stories with maps and photos. 5th graders had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the photojournalism editing and publishing process with National Geographic Senior Editor (live via webcam and Google Hangouts). Students are now working on their own story maps using an explorer mindset.

6th Grade Paper Brain Models

As my school joins the maker and stem movement, more and more of collegial conversations focus on student projects as problem solving. The need for students to understand and to manipulate materials is imperative. One such project incorporates all of these ideas. It is the origami paper brain model by Martin Pyka. 5th Grade students are studying writing systems. Today we looked at this beautiful tile that has calligraphic writing! 5th Grade: Art History and Research

5th graders are researching dragons from different cultures. The students are creating a collaborative Google Slide presentation with their research summaries and original sketches. Next week, they will create their own illustrations and interpretations of St. George and the Dragon.
